Powerhouse Café & Restaurant in Hanmer Springs offers a menu focused on fresh local food situated in a unique historic setting. Sit in the sun and enjoy views of mountain peaks beyond the magnificent trees of the neighbouring Historic Queen Mary Reserve. Or wander over from the busy hot pools to a place of tranquillity, our little slice of paradise. Our team of locals are dedicated to connecting our visitors with each other, the produce, the land and artisans who create through hospitality from the heart. Fresh, fast, flavourful and friendly is how we describe our menu and service. We deliver great coffee, baking, breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner featuring locally grown salad vegetables as well as free range eggs and bacon. We have gluten free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian options as well as a special children's menu.
Aromas of warm cakes and coffee waft over hearty plates of breakfast, brunch, lunch and espresso coffee daily from 7.30am-2pm. Then Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 6pm enjoy our dinner menu. The laughter and conversation of locals fills the intimate Powerhouse Café. Housed a DC Hydro-electric turbine that provided electricity to Queen Mary Hospital from 1926 until 1934 (when the main grid lines came through the hills from Waipara and Christchurch) the café is still generating good energy today!

What Our Customers Say
Delicious Fresh Food at a Reasonable Price
We had breakfast here and it was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The menu has a couple of different items on it, which make it stand out from all the rest. Eat here, you will love it as we did! |
